The Regional Synod is the governing body for the Rheinland church. It normally meets once a year for about a week in Bad Neuenahr.
The decision-making body
The regional synod has 210 voting
members, who meet once a year and make the key decisions for the EKiR,
including ecclesiastical regulations and the budget.
Regional Synod is the governing body for the Evangelical Church in the
Rhineland (EKiR). It normally meets once a year for about a week in Bad
Neuenahr. It is composed of delegates of the 38 districts of the EKiR, the 38
superintendents of the districts, three professors of theology, the members of
the church executive board – who are responsible for the management of the EKiR
over the year – along with a number of appointed members.
the regional synod has 210 voting members. Their main decisions concern church
regulations and the regional church budget. They are also responsible for
electing the executive board.
term ‘synod’ means a church assembly and isn’t used only for the regional
synod. At the district level the
district synods – which are essentially made up of representatives from the
local church congregations - make decisions about matters affecting the
next regional synod of the EKiR will take place from 8 – 13 January 2017.
