The Bible is the central foundation for the faith and life of Protestants in the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKiR). It tells the history of God’s dealings with his people. It is the Word of God, even though it was written down and passed on by human beings in the context of their own historical circumstances.
At a wedding the union of husband and wife or of same-sex partners is brought under the auspices of the Word of God and given God’s blessing. The love between two people is a gift from God who created humankind. This concept defines the Protestant understanding of a wedding.
From the beginning the Christian community has accompanied its dead to their final rest. A funeral is an expression of love and of respect for the one who has died. The central focus of the funeral service is faith in God, who raised Jesus Christ from the dead.
