Home - What We Do
The Evangelical Church in the Rhineland aims to be a “missionary church of the people". A Synod resolution relating to this says: “we need to find a convincing style of language for a modern society that is shaped by science and technology”. We can no longer reach all the people in the same way using one and the same form of language.
The promoting of ecumenical fellowship among the churches is of the highest significance for the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland and is written into Article 1 of the Church constitution. And this is lived out in intensive ways – for example in ecumenical partnerships between local churches, church districts and at the regional level.
Pastoral care is accompanying people in questions of faith and life, in crises and conflicts, when overwhelmed by guilt or anxiety, in illness and dying, in sorrow and in new beginnings.
The Evangelical Church and its diaconal social service have always worked in a variety of special ways to relieve the suffering of people in need. Psychological counselling is regarded as a part of its responsibility for pastoral care.
